Karen Souders, a beacon of love, loyalty, and kindness, graced this world with her presence for 78 incredible years. On January 2, 2025, she passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 16,1946, the daughter of Howard and Arlene Hansen, twin sister of Sharon (William) Kerchner, wife of Ronald Souders, mother to Kathryn (Jeffrey) Pogue, and grandmother to John and Abigail. Karen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, known for her generosity, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends. Karen worked as a registered nurse at Argonne National Laboratory for over 30 years and retired to spend her days with her grandchildren. Her greatest accomplishment was the love and affection she showed to her family and friends. She was known for bringing coffee cakes to the employees of all of her favorite stores, doctors, restaurants, and caregivers, and for leaving donuts at the front door of her grandchildren’s house on a daily basis. She sang in the choir at First Congregational Church of Western Springs and was a member of the Diaconate. Karen’s legacy of love, compassion, and selflessness will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace.
