Laura “Mama” Morales, a 70-year-old long-time resident of Chicago, passed away on May 17th, 2023 at Elevate Care of Palos Heights. She was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico on June 29th, 1952 to the late Reyes and Matilde Morales. Mama is survived by her husband, Ernesto Morales, and her children, Rosie and Junior as well as grandchildren Junito, Jiovanni, Tyler and June. She is also survived by her sisters Provy and Elba and her nieces and nephews Rey, Reina, Berto, Vanessa and the late Daisy, in addition to many great nieces and nephews.
Mama fought a tough battle with breast cancer and was in remission of multiple myeloma as she battled with diabetes. She would always have a smile on her face and a kind word or advice to share. Mama worked hard for many years with Dr. Rios and learned many things. After he closed his doors, she worked at the currency exchange on North Ave. and Damen where she made many friends.
Mama’s memory will always be in our hearts. We will all forever be thankful for her smile when we were having a hard day, the words of advice she would always have, the laugh that was contagious, and the unconditional love she gave no matter what.
