(Born August 26, 1930 and Passed October 9, 2024).
Nancy Lee Hamrick, age 94, passed peacefully on Tuesday, October 9, 2024, at her Oak Hill’s home in Palos Heights, IL. Born Nancy Lee Hall August 26, 1930, to Ross and Adelberta Hall, she grew up in the South Shore neighborhood of Chicago. Nancy, the youngest child, had two siblings, Robert (Bob) and Betsy. She enjoyed a close relationship with them throughout life, as well as sister-in-law Margie and brother-in-law, Jack.
An Art major at the University of Illinois @ Urbana-Champaign, Nancy also pledged Chi Omega Sorority. She met her husband, Roy Gerald Hamrick during this time and they married in 1949 when Nancy was 19 years old. Palos Park became their home of many years where they raised three children: Steven, Deborah, and Betsy. Jerry provided for his family serving as the President of Reserve Supply Corporation.
Nancy was an active volunteer responsible for starting and coordinating the Meals on Wheels program through Palos Community Hospital delivering hot meals to residents in need. She also volunteered over ten years at the Worth Neat Repeats, which benefits the Crisis Center of South Suburbia. In addition, Nancy was a Charter member of the Swallow Cliff Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and celebrated 70 plus years in the organization since 1952.
Nancy and Jerry became members of the Palos Park Presbyterian Church in 1961 making this their church family and home. They were active in the Palos community and formed lasting relationships through the Palos Ski Club and Palos Village Players.
In every sense of the word, Nancy was a classy lady with much charm. One from the Greatest Generation, she believed in old fashioned values, and good manners. Nancy strongly loved God, her family, and America.
Visits to Florida were integral in Nancy and Jerry’s marriage, as Nancy’s parents had retired and moved to Englewood, Florida. Many summers were spent there enjoying the beach and sunshine with friends and family. Eventually, Jerry retired and divided their time in Florida and Palos.
Their children had already been married for some time and started families of their own. Deborah married Rev Tony Davidson (passed Feb 2024), who had four children from previous marriage; Jeff, Julie, Jill, and Tony. Betsy married Aaron Berryman and had two children, John and Jennifer. Steven Hamrick had been married, served in the Navy, and unexpectedly passed in 1980.
Fun loving and spirited, Nancy led her life with purpose, always willing to lend a hand to friends and relatives. Jerry and Nancy enjoyed his retirement until his passing in 1999. About to celebrate 50 years of marriage, Nancy and Jerry had created a wealth of memories and love together.
While back in Florida, Nancy met Norman Maschner, a gentleman in church. As both had recently been widowed, they began dating and married in 2002. His adult children, Norm, Debbie, Tricia, and David and their families blended nicely into Nancy’s family for nearly 20 years. Nancy and Norm’s marriage was a testament of finding love and happiness again. They enjoyed travels to Michigan, Florida, and California. Nancy and Norm continued being active in church and had a special life together.
In 2021 Norm passed and Nancy continued on believing the best for herself and loved ones. As a beloved mother, nana, aunt, stepmother and step grandmother, Nancy was gracious to all. She truly lived a blessed and wonderful life.
