Phyllis Jean Peterson

October 29, 1937 — March 1, 2025

Phyllis Jean Peterson (Nee Hecht), October 29, 1937 - March 1, 2025.

Phyllis Jean Peterson (Nee Hecht) was born on October 29, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Roland Hecht and Jacoba Hecht (terMuellen). She grew up alongside her late brother, Alfred Hecht.

Phyllis married Alfred Peterson on April 23, 1960, sharing nearly 65 years together. They created a life filled with love—sharing dreams, building a business, traveling the world, and enjoying memories with their family. She passed away peacefully in her home on March 1, 2025.

Phyllis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. She is survived by her dear husband Alfred; her son, Scott and wife, Tracy; her daughter, Susan and husband, Ralph. She was a nurturing grandma to five grandchildren: Matthew (Erika), Madelyn (Drew), Justin (Heather), Audrey, and Derek (Alexis) and adored by her five great-grandchildren: Owen, Mia, Everett, Jacob, and Alice. Beyond her family, Phyllis cherished the friendships she made over the years, always offering a caring presence and warm smile to those around her.

After graduating from Chicago Teachers College in 1959, Phyllis worked as a kindergarten teacher, where she developed a passion for children. She never missed an opportunity to share time with—and spoil—her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whether reading books, playing games, or simply teaching them something new. Throughout the years, she was supportive of the business ventures she and Al started, always saying “yes” to the next big idea. Exploring the world and cruising the seas together, Phyllis enjoyed her travel adventures with Al.

Though her memory faded in her later years, Phyllis’s love for family and her nurturing spirit was always shining through. She never stopped cherishing moments with family and friends. Her kindness and love will be greatly missed.
