Terence Joseph McGuinness, known affectionately as Terry, passed away peacefully at home on March 22, 2025, at the age of 87. His vibrant spirit and zest for life touched the hearts of all who knew him.

Born in Portrane, Co. Dublin, Ireland, Terry emigrated to Chicago in 1958 and was soon drafted into the US Army, where he served honorably and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant within his 2 years. Terry loved singing and was known for his vibrant performances with various bands at the Irish Dances. He also performed on numerous occasions during the Irish Hour radio show. It was at these dances that he met his wife, Colette, and they married in December 1968.

After dedicating 32 years to Peoples’ Gas, Terry welcomed retirement with open arms, finding joy in his role as custodian for multiple District 230 schools, including Ben Franklin. His commitment to hard work and his caring nature left a lasting impression on those he worked with.

In a bold move, he and his wife, Colette, relocated to Sedona, AZ where they embarked on a new chapter together. There, they founded the successful cleaning business, Harp & Shamrock, building a livelihood and lasting friendships among many in their community. Terry’s warm smile and welcoming demeanor made him a cherished greeter at Verde Valley Medical Center, where he brought joy to patients and staff alike.

Eventually, they returned to the Chicagoland area to be closer to family and friends. It was then that Terry began working at the Alsip Doubletree Hotel, where he had fun, and made many new friends.

Terry is survived by his beloved wife, Colette (nee Pelton). Together, they built a beautiful family and created countless memories. Devoted father of Brian (Kyle), Ellen (Gerry), Jennifer, Linda (Bobby), John (Jenny), Mark and Dan.

Proud grandfather and great grandfather of Connor, Peyton, Fiona, Savannah, Gerry Jr, Sean, Alexis, Landon, Margot and Torry.

Loving son of the late Ellen (nee Garrigan) and James McGuinness. Terry is survived by brothers Fergus (late Millie) and Lorcan (Valerie) and sister Kathleen (late Tony); he was preceded in death by brothers Paddy (late Eileen), Hilliard, John (Betty) and Gene (late Maureen) and sisters Eileen and Mary Antoinette.

Kind uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Please join us in honoring Terry's memory and celebrating a life well-lived.
