Age 84, of Palos Heights passed away peacefully. Beloved Husband for 63 years to Judith Zbylut. Loving Father of Loni (Howard) Neumann & Gregory (Amy) Zbylut. Cherished Grandfather of Ryan & Kyle Hite & Leah Breyer. Devoted Son of the late: Sylvester & Frances Zbylut. Dear Brother of the late Jean Sopcak & Brother-in-law of the late Ralph Sopcak. Proud Godfather of Shari (nee Sopcak) Phelan. Fond Uncle of many nieces & nephews. Dear Cousin & Friend of many. Vern was a very proud graduate of Mendel Catholic High School, Premier Class of 1955. Vern graduated from Loyola University College (evening school) in 1961. While attending Loyola, he was indoctrinated into the “Blue Key National Honors Society”, which recognizes students who show scholarship, leadership, and service during their college career. After graduation, Vern worked a short time for Coca-Cola before joining the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors, where he worked for 37 years before retiring in 1998. In that time, he enjoyed many rounds of golf and bowling as an active member of the company leagues. He continued to actively golf and bowl with his coworkers & colleagues even after retirement. Visitation Wednesday, July 6th from 3p.m. until 8 p.m. at the KERRY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CARE CENTER, 7020 W. 127th Street, Palos Heights. Funeral Thursday, July 7th Mass of Resurrection at Saint Alexander Church in Palos Heights and the Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip will be private.
